Dr Kush Shrestha is an Orthopaedic Surgeon experienced in all aspects of General Orthopaedics and Trauma, including hip, knee and shoulder surgery, joint replacement surgery and sports surgeries. He has special interest in primary and revision arthroplasty of hips and knees as well as sports surgeries of knees and shoulder. He currently serves as Head of Orthopaedic Department at Royal Darwin Hospital and is a visiting Medical Officer at Darwin Private Hospital.
Dr Shrestha completed his medical training in Adelaide, Australia, having joined the MBBS program after initial enrolment in a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduating with MBBS from The University of Adelaide in 2000, he went to UK to undertake Basic Surgical Training. After undertaking his Basic Surgical Training at the Norforlk and Norwich Hospital UK, Dr Shrestha returned to Adelaide where he completed the Australian Orthopaedic Training program, obtaining his FRACS in 2013.
Dr Shrestha undertook further 18 months of Advanced Surgical Training in ‘Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction Fellowship’ at University Hospital, University of Western Ontario; and the ‘Adult Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship’ at the Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic, Canada. During his training, Dr Shrestha also volunteered as Sports Doctor for the Western University Soccer Club and also visited various centres in USA including the Hospital for Special Surgery.
Dr Shrestha is actively involved in teaching and sits on RACS- Younger Fellows Forum. He is also NT representative for the National AOA Committee. Dr Shrestha has presented at several national and international conferences, the most recent being a podium presentation at the 2015 Canadian Orthopaedic Association Annual Meeting on research on ‘Comparison of backside wear in smooth versus polished base plate in total knee replacements.
’ Dr Shrestha has also had a book chapter published titled, ‘Developmental Dysplasia of Hip and Surgical Management’
in an international book named 'Master Techniques in Hip
' in 2015.
Dr Shrestha keeps up to date with current trends in surgery through attending relevant Professional Development seminars and courses, the latest being the International Conference in Shoulder Surgery held in San Diego by the San Diego Shoulder Institute.
Dr Shrestha is also actively involved in humanitarian missions. He provided post earthquake disaster management implants at the Tribhuvan University Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2015 which he continues. He has also performed Orthopaedic operations in Antigua, Guatemala as part of voluntary mission ‘Operation Walk’ Canada.
